Hey there, I’ve decided to write some posts to help you guys with stress and other mental issues you may be struggling with during these rough times in quarantine. This post focuses on stress in different places and how to handle it, this was an assignment I did for a class but I thought it would be helpful for all of you! Stay safe out there.

What is Stress?

Stress is usually caused by a major change, your own thoughts, something someone has said, too much work or by being overwhelmed. A lot of things can cause you to get stressed out, but there are many ways to prevent and get rid of stress. Stress is natural, but too much stress can be harmful to your mental and physical health, making you feel awful and even more stressed out.


What are the symptoms of stress?

  • Low energy
  • Headaches
  • Stomach aches
  • Insomnia
  • You’re easily irritated
  • Tense muscles
  • Changes in your eating
  • Procrastination / Lack of motivation
  • Feeling overwhelmed

How can I get rid of stress at home?

Home stress can be from things such as other family members, bills, homework, mental health, physical health, caring for other people, money, food and many many other reasons, but, there’s usually a lot of different resources to de-stress at home, such as; listening to music, watching tv, going for a walk, talking to a friend, drawing, exercising, meditating, writing, reading and there are so many more ways to de-stress. Ways to avoid stress at home can also be, having a personal space where you can be alone, avoiding stressful conversations, avoiding social media or the news (especially during the pandemic)

How can I get rid of stress at work?

Work stress can be very different than at home stress. There’s deadlines, sales, customers, so many tasks and events to take care of, etc. But, you can still try to manage that stress! By making a list of your tasks that need to be done, it’ll help relax you and organize you at the same time. You can also ask a co-worker for help with the task, or ask for it to be assigned to somebody else. Try not to put too many things on your plate at once, take your time and focus on one thing at a time. If a co-worker or customer causes you to stress, you can excuse yourself from the situation to take a breather. Taking breaks at work is also very important for moral. You can use your break time to try and relax, eat lunch and just distract yourself from the stressful task(s) at hand. Bringing work stress home isn’t a good idea, try to leave all that at work or if you can, stay late to finish the task at hand, so you’re not stressing yourself out!

How can I get rid of stress in public?

Stress can also happen in public, if you’re at the beach, at the mall or even at a restaurant. It could be caused by the way people talk to you or the number of people in the area, your appearance, gender, race, ethnicity, menstrual cycles and more. People with high social anxiety are most likely to be stressed out by social situations, but in public, there are resources to help de-stress you. You can call or text a friend to talk to, you can also move to a less populated location. If you’re with family or a friend group you can also express your concerns about being stressed and I’m sure they’ll help you out too. If you have headphones on you, you can listen to music off your phone, or distract yourself in another way.


How can I get rid of school stress?

School stress is one of the most difficult stress to deal with because it can be daily stress caused by, school work, social status, friends, classmates, teachers, clubs, teams and more. Ways to de-stress can be to organize and spread out all your tasks, have set times for homework and your extracurricular activities. By finishing work in class, it reduces the stress of homework at the end of the day and gives you more time to relax after school. Asking for help from classmates and the teacher can also reduce assignment stress when you don’t understand something in it. Clubs are also a great way to de-stress during school, as long as they don’t stress you out. There’s also nothing wrong with taking mental health days!
